Qualioptiq, the architectural and
decorative lighting division of
Montreal-based Luminaction
Lighting Products, has an award-winning
reputation for designing and manufacturing
high-quality commercial and institutional
lighting fixtures for indoor and outdoor
applications.

In designing its new Marina polemounted
outdoor lighting fixture,
Qualioptiq (qualioptiq.com) was looking
to create a stylish, durable lighting
fixture that could stand up to the wind,
rain and snow, yet be easy to install and
service.

By combining an extruded heavygauge
aluminum housing and decorative
cap, UV-resistant acrylic diffusers and
refractors and corrosion-resistant stainless
steel fastening hardware from
Southco, the Marina is an all-weather
exterior lighting fixture that is attracting
the attention of customers in both
Canada and the U.S.

The Marina uses three Southco marinegrade
stainless steel over-centre draw
latches to positively secure the spun aluminum
top of each lighting fixture. The
robust design of these concealed, quick
release latches securely fastens the top of
the fixture, yet enables easy, efficient
access to the interior for installation, maintenance
or replacement of the metal halide
or high-pressure sodium vapor lamps
available for the Marina.

A large number of the Marina polemounted
fixtures from Qualioptiq were
recently installed on the streets of
Gatineau, QC, a city of 239,000.

According to Louis Hein, master electrician
hired by the city of Gatineau, the
Marina was selected for its stylish looks
and durable construction-an important
consideration given the extreme weather
conditions found north of the border.
ìThe city was looking for an attractive,
well-designed exterior lighting fixture that
is easy to install and service,î said Hein.

ìThe security of the fixtureís cap was a
critical consideration given the sometimes
harsh weather conditions in Gatineau.

ìThree rivers converge in Gatineau
and the winds get pretty brisk in the winter.
Knowing that we can easily access the
interior of the Marina fixture for servicing
and knowing that the cap is securely fastened
when winterís winds blow makes the Marina
an ideal lighting fixture for the city.î

As a member of the IESNA,
Luminaction Lighting Products has

IES Montreal awarded Luminaction with

Prestige Lighting category.
