ALLOY STEEL PULL DOWELS FOR BLIND-, THROUGH-HOLE APPS PDF Print E-mail
ImageJergens, Inc. has announced precision-ground, heat-treated alloy steel pull dowel pins in three different styles: Spiral Groove, Flat Vent or Standard Round. All Jergens pull dowels meet ASME/ANSI B18.8.2 specifications, with a surface hardness of 60-64 Rockwell C and a core hardness of 47-58 Rockwell C. They are available in diameters from 1/4 to 1 in. and corresponding lengths from 1/2 to 4 in. Pull dowel pins are used to prevent motion or slippage when locating workpieces on a fixture plate. When a pin is REPLACEed into a blind hole, air is forced into the hole.

The Spiral Groove and Flat Vent styles allow trapped air to escape through the spiral grooves or the flat that has been ground into the pin. The Standard Round (non-vented) pull dowel is best used in applications featuring through holes.

Internally threaded holes are said to make the pins easily removable with a standard screw. Pull dowels also eliminate the need for knockout holes.
