Incremental steps to better fuel economy

Canadian and U.S. government legislation requires light passenger vehicles to achieve a sales weighted corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) fleet average of 35.5 mpg (U.S) or 6.6 L/100 by 2016, a 25% increase over current levels.
The seventh generation, 2012 Porsche 911 unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, marked another step in the evolution of this venerable design. The original 911 was introduced in 1963 as the successor to the beloved but dated 356 model. 

Canadian students meet the EcoCAR Challenge

Canadian university students have a proud record of achievement in advanced vehicle engineering competitions, demonstrated again recently when University of Waterloo’s Alternative Fuels Team (UWAFT) vehicle finished third out of 16 schools in the 2011 EcoCAR challenge.
As automotive engineers search for ways to improve efficiency, one area of interest is the driveline. With the inexorable move to hybrids and full electrics, in-wheel electric motors (also called hub motors) offer promise.
