Matt McCormack, application engineer, SKF USA Inc., spoke with DPN at the recent SKF Technical Press Day in Philadelphia. McCormack detailed what designers should look for in roller bearings when specifying for motor or machine assemblies.

The E-Event Festo International Press Conference at St. Ingbert-Rohrbach, Germany, in June 2012 focused on electric drive solutions in conjunction with electric mobility. Festo's technical press attaché Christopher Haug conducted interviews with presenters from the conference, who discuss how e-drives can provide everything from safety to plant floor efficiencies.
Bill Lewis, Senior Marketing Manager at Siemens PLM Software, spoke with DPN editorial director Mike Edwards at the recent Siemens PLM Connection conference in Las Vegas. Lewis went into depth on his company's High Definition PLM vision aimed at the customer user experience from Siemens applications such Teamcenter 10.1, NX and Solid Edge, as well as embracing data files from its competitors.

Mechatronic solutions consultant Sean-Patrick Mulherrin of EPLAN Software & Services North America demonstrates the new EPLAN Engineering Center One (EEC) design and assembly software functionality at Hannover Messe 2012. The EEC generates all of the documentation at the click of a button: schematics and fluid plans, mechanical designs, and complete PLC programs.

A machine-learning project uses a large, varied set of images of people's hands to train Kinect to determine if a hand is open or closed.
