Industrial design grads display innovation at Rocket competition

TORONTO – The 2011 10th Annual “Rocket” Ontario Industrial Design Grad Show and Competition featured the schools of industrial design at Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning, Carleton University and Ontario College of Art & Design University.
This year’s “Best In Show” award for senior year studio project went to Carleton's Andrew Lowe (www.lowe9.com). His CrossTrainer Wheelchair design can quickly convert from daily use to sports use, allowing it to qualify for government funding grants for daily use wheelchairs.Other projects included: a disaster relief toilet from Carlton's Rahim Bhimani (www.rahimbhimani.com) who has attracted attention from CBC's Dragon’s Den TV program for his ultraviolet sport pack; a tablet-based interactive app from OCADU's George Wu (www.georgewu.ca) that allows non-musicians to improvise and collaborate; and, a commuter e-bike from OCADU’s Henry Chong (www.henrychongdesigns.com).
