The Siliken Group of renewable energy companies will open a plant manufacturing photovoltaic modules in Ontario, Canada, with an initial production capacity of 50 MW. It could start operations in the last quarter of 2010. Siliken is completing the choice of location and the necessary legal paperwork in order to set this plant in motion.
The production plant will create approximately 150 direct jobs in Ontario. The manufactured equipment will produce clean power equalling the consumption of roughly 19,000 households, which will avoid yearly emissions of 40,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere, as well as the generation of 40,000 milligrams of highly radioactive waste.
The new plant will join the other Siliken plants that are currently productive in Valencia (Spain) and San Diego (California, USA). It is to absorb the demand for PV equipment which started to grow since bonuses for power production (FIT Program) have been introduced for photovoltaic installations in Ontario and since the introduction of positive discrimination of the product manufactured in this province under the new legislation.
