Fraba releases heavy-duty rotary encoders

Posital – a business unit within the FRABA group – released its Magnetocode (MCD) absolute rotary encoders.

The encoders are available with heavy-duty stainless steel housings with an “IP69K level of protection,” said Posital. “This means that they can withstand rain, dirt, dust, even the water jets and aggressive cleaning procedures used in food production, clean room operations, or on construction equipment.”

The shaft is mounted onto ball-bearings and can “withstand mechanical forces of up to 3000 N (67 pounds),” said Posital. They provide 12-bit resolution (4096 steps per revolution) but are available in multi-turn models with a 13-bit resolution (up to 8192 revolutions).

The encoders use a SSI interface with the availability of a CANopen field bus interface. Also available is an analog interface (4-20mA or 0-10V) and in the future DeviceNet and SAE J1939 interfaces.
