Baldor Electric Company has announced a linear motor design said to combine the best features of traditional brushless technology with cost advantages of less expensive stepper technology. The HyCore linear motor is also said to bring these benefits to applications: zero backlash, high efficiency, unlimited travel, improved accuracy, fast velocities and accelerations over 60 ips and up to 3 G.
The 5x 4x 14 in. package provides up to 20% more continuous force with peak forces up to 750 lb in. Additionally the continuous force capability can be extended an additional 20% with optional air cooling.
