PROGRAMMABLE, STAND-ALONE MOTION CONTROLLER

The EPOS P 24/5 from Maxon Precision Motors is a programmable digital motion controller capable of position, velocity and current mode. After initial programming, the unit may be operated as a stand-alone position controller, or used to control other non-programmable EPOS units. The design makes the unit suitable for controlling small brush or brushless motors.

Dimensions are 105 x 83 x 24 mm and weight is approximately 180 g. Communication is via RS-232 or CANopen. Programming is accomplished via the IEC 61131-3 standard with various editors (ST, IL, FBD, LD, SFC). All software is complimentary and available via internet. Requiring a supply voltage of 11-24 V DC, the controller is capable of 5 A max continuous current and 10 A peak current. Efficiency is up to 90%.

The 50 kHz switching frequency and built-in choke insures compatibility with most low inductance motors, while the sinusoidal commutation for brushless motors insures minimal torque ripple and low noise. Maximum motor speed is 25,000 rpm for 2-pole motors. A maximum encoder input frequency of 1 MHz, six digital inputs, four digital outputs, and two analog inputs allows for maximum flexibility.
