Absolute linear encoders with multiple scanning units are now available from Heidenhain. The LC scales are suitable for use with machine concepts where more than one slide is moving along a machine axis, in particular, through directly driven linear axes.
The use of a multi-unit absolute linear encoder in these applications
is said to keep costs down and requires only limited space. Units come
with the bi-directional, digital EnDat 2.2 interface capable of
outputting absolute position values, as well as requesting or updating
information stored in an encoder.
