Virtual instrumentation software simplifies data acquisition

National Instruments (ni.com) has released LabVIEW 7.1 virtual instrumentation (VI) software. The release includes five new VIs for NI digitizers, signal generators and digital I/O, and allows for graphical debugging of real-time systems.

Engineers can use the PDA Module to create customized handheld DMM applications and communicate with Bluetooth-enabled devices. The FPGA Module is said to develop FPGA code that executes as efficiently as hand-coded VHDL and an HDL interface node is said to allow existing VHDL code to be reused in LabVIEW.
