ANSYS incorporates advanced fatigue capabilities from HBM-nCode

ANSYS, Inc. – a developer and marketer of engineering simulation software and technologies – now incorporates the advanced fatigue capabilities of nCode DesignLife to its design optimization.

NCode DesignLife is software from HBM used by OEMs and their suppliers. Adding this software to the ANSYS platform “enables mechanical engineers to more easily address complex product life and durability issues all before a prototype is ever built,” says ANSYS. It is supposed to help product development groups avoid in-field failures, while helping to reduce raw material expenses that can result from product over design.

According to ANSYS, the combination of the ANSYS Workbench platform and nCode DesignLife “creates a simulation environment in which fatigue analysis can be easily added to the engineering simulation process using the ANSYS standard drag-and-drop interface.” This allows engineers to perform parametric studies and ask what-if questions about how a design will perform. Fatigue analysis is statistical in nature but the variation of inputs “provides great insight in to the predicted results.”

Joe Solecki, vice president of the physics business unit at ANSYS explains that products are not initially designed for use over longer periods in more rigorous environments as consumers may potentially be using them. He addresses that “advanced fatigue analysis can address these issues, even before prototype testing. Through our partnership with HBM-nCode, ANSYS is adding to its mechanical simulation tools, bringing product developers world-class durability analysis.”
