Pre-activated epoxy adhesive technology
An adhesive technology from Henkel Corp. is said to combine the advantages of epoxy and light cure chemistries, but works on colored and opaque substrates such as metals, plastics, glass and ceramics that cannot transmit light.
The process starts by dispensing Loctite Pre-Activated Epoxy adhesive
directly onto an opaque part. Expose the part to UV light at 254 to 365
nm for 5 to 60 s and assemble the two substrates. The light activates
the adhesive, which cures to fixture strength in minutes and reaches
full cure in hours at room temperature. Single component, medium
viscosity Loctite 3355 requires no mixing and shrinks <0.7% during
cure.
The acid-free, low outgassing formulation will not corrode or contaminate sensitive components including electronics. Optional heat cure capability speeds full cure to minutes at 60?C.
