Welcome!

WorldSkills 2009 in Calgary shows that "the kids are (still) alright"

Manufacturing may take a backseat with certain politicians, but there is no denying the enthusiasm of the young people from around the globe that gathered in Calgary earlier this month for WorldSkills 2009.

Competitions such as WorldSkills, FIRST Robotics, LEGO League, Formula SAE, CFPA Technology Challenge and countless regional events at high schools, colleges and universities make technical careers much more understandable and desirable to those that participate.

DPN dispatched reporter Carolyn Yates and videographer Jim Stubbington to Calgary for an intimate look at the proceedings in Calgary's Stampede Park facility. For several days, they hoofed it from one end of the complex to the other, interviewing category experts in competitions from Mechatronics to Mobile Robotics. They also collared events sponsors such as Festo, Autodesk, Fluke Electronics & Fluke Networks, and Altium.

Please check out the Design Product News video library, and those of our sister publications Canadian Electronics, Metalworking Production & Purchasing, and Electrical Business for a complete picture of WorldSkills 2009.
